“You can wear a scarf.” Dan sipped his beer, watching Kyle with a self-satisfied smile. The guy was as perky as ever and even managed to save some Rice Krispies to make them both brunch.

“Yeah, I could wear one of your bandanas.” Kyle gave him a peck on the cheek, before going over to the couch to find his t-shirt. Dan chuckled into the bottle and followed him with his gaze. “Dan...?” Kyle kissed him on the cheek.

Kyle bit back a smile, all starry-eyed. “Have you considered getting tested?”

Dan blinked, for a moment feeling confused. “Um... you mean, for STDs?” He tried not to sound overly excited, as they have only been dating for a month, even though it was a very intense period.

“Yeah... not that I think you have one, or anything!” Kyle was quick to add. “But if we did, maybe we could, you know, be even more open with each other?”

Dan bit his lip. Not that he hooked up with anyone since they met, but that was a huge commitment. He stroked Kyle’s hair. “You mean in sex?”

“Well, yeah, wouldn’t have to worry about condoms and stuff...” Kyle slid his arms around Dan’s neck, kissing his jaw. It made him curl his toes against the carpet.

“Um, so... you mean you want to go exclusive?” He leaned into the embrace, but instead of being pliant as usual, Kyle went rigid and pale.

“I-- what?”

Dan’s stomach tightened. It looked like his question was uncalled for. “It’s okay if you don’t want to, we’ve only known each other for a month.”

“No! I mean... I thought we were exclusive already... You’re my proper boyfriend,” Kyle mumbled, pushing away slightly, but not enough to leave Dan’s embrace.

Dan frowned. He tightened his grip on Kyle’s arms and gave him an inquisitive look. “Um... okay, that’s new.”

“You think I’d do this kind of thing with just anyone?” Kyle’s face fell.

“I know you didn’t... you know, go all the way with it.” Dan’s throat felt dry. “But we never talked about it. I thought we were just.. you know, dating.”

“And you date other guys like this?” It was just a whisper now, and Dan didn’t need to be a mind reader to know Kyle was increasingly upset.

“Er... you didn’t leave enough time for any other guy to squeeze into my schedule.” He managed a smile, hoping the joke would lift Kyle’s spirits.
